Local councils in Scotland are elected by STV in 3 or 4 member seats. The by-election was called because one of the 4 existing councillors in the ward was elected as an MP.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Pirate Party candidate was Philip Hunt. He got 43 votes out of a total of 6639, 0.65% of the vote. This was at the time PPUK&amp;#039;s best vote share, since beaten by [[May 2011, England and Wales local government elections|Graeme Lambert]].&lt;br /&gt;
