This guide will help you download and upload images to the Flaschenpost photo gallery.

Basically https is necessary to access the photo album. Unencrypted traffic is automatically redirected to the encrypted pages.

Downloading Images

For read-only access (using the browser to view images, download pictures etc) no password is necessary.

Access A password is required for write access. The pirate times has an own account:

Username: piratetimes Password: Please ask Andrew or Gefion

Uploading Images For write access in the photo album we use the WebDAV protok oll, expanding to http to allow the writing of files. This requires stand alone programs that do not work through the browser. One can divide these programs two groups: those that represent the files in a separate window (for example as seen in some ftp programs) and those who ensure that the files in the photo album appear like local files (similar to dropbox).

Windows:

The pictures of the photo album can be integrated as a 'remote drive' with Microsoft Explorer.Documentation [1]. Bit Kinex[2] alows pictures to be shown in a separate window. Bit Kinex is free software but takes some getting used to.

Linux:

There are 1000s of programs which can work with Linux. Konqueror displays the files in a separate window [3], a remote drive can also be mounted and works as if it were locally available [4].

Mac:

Not the author's area of expertise but it works [5]

The software, which is used to create albums is 'Album' [6]. It may not add up to much, but it is universally usable.

Under /Fotos/ are directories that are mapped to the file 'captions.txt'. This file can also be used to convert file names into captions.

In the file header.txt file is a header that is found in the top of each page. The text file with the same name as an image only with 'txt' as a suffix, instead of 'jpg' for example, is found below the image.

An example of a well prepared album is seen in

The generation of the Index occurs every night at 03:40 CET. Until then the changes are not visible.
