  • President-Pirate Party of Canada (elected April.2016). I help organize with the party federally as well as regular Pirate meet ups in my city, "Pirate Pints"
  • Profession: Social worker/women's support worker in the shelter system. I provide practical support and counselling for women, children and youth escaping violent family situations.
  • Community activist in London, Ontario since 2011: Occupy, Indigenous solidarity/Idle No More, Food Not Bombs, labour/anti-austerity, anti-fascism, prisoner support, etc...lots of mobilizing around opposition to Bill C-51 in Canada. I also enjoy teaching fellow activists about encryption apps & protecting privacy
  • Radical media collective "The Indignants": writing & photography, & soon to be co-host on a new local radio show discussing politics and social movements
language(s) English
motivation and political background I believe that the global Pirate movement has revolutionary potential and that building alliances and friendships internationally is one of the most important things we can do. Each Pirate Party is going to have unique perspectives and goals depending on where we are located and the socio-political context of our respective regions. We need to do everything we can to celebrate and support one another in our endeavours, whether or not we use the same tactics. We need to work together on what we have in common and learn from each other’s accomplishments, but it's also an inherently good and effective thing to learn from our differences. That is what comes to mind when I think about PPI and its purpose: Sharing. It is a fundamental aspect of who we are as Pirates and what holds us together as human beings. I would be honoured to contribute to PPI by helping to build on its strengths, facilitate any changes decided upon at the GA, and maintain that spirit of sharing and solidarity that is crucial to political progress.

motivation and political background In my eyes it is vital for PPI to be in touch with other NGOs and hopefully with other international institutions, as the board had already began. Beside the board we do need some kind of a second level within the PPI, you might call it teams. As we all can see some few elected members to the board can't solve all the problems that evolve. We do need the members of the PPI to be acting as one on some aspects, e.g. CISPA. On ACTA we all did a great job! Now it is time to move forward. "Infiltrating" all those lobbying filth might be a start. But as you might know - my main issue is something else. Human rights and related issues would be on my agenda (beside the boring every day work of a board member (don't forget even access to information via Internet is a human right). We have to be in touch with relevant organizations beside PPI on this. This means: attend meetings, exchange of information with relevant organizations and so forth.

Volunteering for the Free Software Foundation Europe in different positions since 2011, PP-EE board member since 2014, final year MEng student of aeronautical engineering.
language(s) English, Estonian
motivation and political background MO-4, PPI reform towards inclusiveness and co-operation, Free Software, human rights, sustainability and the environment.

I believe that one of the main roles of PPI should be to facilitate information exchange between the EFF, the EPIC, the FSF, etc. (i.e., the civil rights movement of the Internet era) and the pirate parties (i.e., the political parties representative of this movement). We must take an active role in securing net neutrality and stopping the expansion of copyright, its ilk, and draconian penalties under the guise of trade agreements.

motivation and political background I am applying to be elected as a Member of the Board (treasurer) again.

Since my first General Assembly chairman’s job in 2011 in Friedrichshafen, I have accompanied the International Pirates Movement continuously.

For the PPEU foundation process I worked in many international conferences since 2012, such as in Prague (CZ), Aarau (CH), Barcelona (CAT), Rome (I), Manchester (GB), Paris (F), Warsaw (PL) and Luxembourg. I have participated at several online-meetings for developing PPEU-Statues and PPEU-Manifesto. Financially I am independent, so I could pay for my expenses on my own.

It will be an extraordinary challenge to re-organize all necessary structures for the PPI and would mean a great honour to me to take on this task.

I am a professional accountant, so I know what that task means.

To unite the international Pirates movement is a challenging goal that will make us stand together.

Pirates should work together without borders.

motivation and political background Having spent one year on the inside I can see better what troubles PPI and why PPI is hard to reform. PPI is a great idea and has much potential but it has lost its way a bit. It is my hope that the GA will agree to go into permanent session to fix problems and adapt to the current situation much quicker as the board alone can currently do or a special GA sitting either in physical space or in mumble.

I have to face some medical issues this year but I believe it is better if at least one member from the previous board continues to the next. I would prefer to take a low profile role but am willing to do as much as is needed for as long as possible.

motivation and political background PPI Board 2016 application

I am candidate to a position on the board of the PPI. Because I believe that I can contribute to the development of the political activites of the international pirate movement.

My intent:

My intent is to enable the PPI to be recognised a invaluable contributor and partner when it comes to digital society issues.

What do I bring to the table?
A driven and pragmatical approach to the development of the Party, by leveraging a strong and successful track record, as well a my recognised expertise and leadership. As well as a strong network with other organisations such as ISOC, for which I am a founding member of the Swiss chapter, and a member since 1993.

My goals:

1- Establish a operational core team funded through donations and public subventions run in a transparent fashion based in Geneva, where the ITU, WIPO, WTO, and UNHCR hqs are located, as well as over 170 country embassies or diplomatic representations are present
2- Initiate and find the funding for 4 key projects:
Cyber geneva convention
Cyberweapon non-proliferation convention
Immaterial goods trade framework, including Intellectual Property and Copyrights
Participative and director democracy tools sharing, and maturity framework development
3- Enable the recognition of the PPI as a full member of the UN ECOSOC organisation.

My achievements for the Swiss Pirate Party:
- Developped a political framework, which defined clearly and in a very synthetic way the identity of the pirate party, this framework has been adopted by the swiss pirate party in plenary session in 2014. This document has been taken over and adopted by the Belgian Pirate Party, as well as several regional sections of the French Pirate Party.
- Drafting and pushing through parlament the enhancement of the article 13 on the Swiss Consitution to incorporate the digital integrity of the individual as extension of the current defintion of integrity protection requirements. This parlamentary initative will be presented as a popular votation item within the next 2 years. It gained a broad support from all partie, enabling it to pass all parlamentarian hurdles, it will be presented soon to the federal council, thus starting the final phase of the process before a ballot on this consitutional change initiative.
- Supporting the open source legal requirement for Geneva's CH-Vote internet based voting system.
- Raise the visibiity of the Swiss Pirate Party in the media, through the development of a communication framework and by the execution of a comprehensive communication plan, including the development of a media network, and the implementation of dissemination tools to improve the visibility of the published Press Releases. With over 120 radio inerviews and several tv debate, the project enabled us to gain a strong footing in the last elections.
- Raised the sympathiser basis by 400% in the french speaking area of switzerland
- First Swiss French Pirate to be elected as concilman (current).
- Underwriter for the popular initative on transparency of political funding http://transparenz-ja.ch/fr/ - currently collecting support pledges

My tenures within the Pirate Party are:
- Political director of the Swiss Pirate Party- Past
- Board member of the Geneva Pirate Party - Past
- Vice-President of the Swiss Pirate Party - Past

Vice-Chair of Pirate Party of Russia
International Coordinator of Pirate Party of Russia
Chief Editor of PirateMedia.net and social media of PP-RU

language(s) Russian, English
motivation and political background I've participated in almost every PPI Board meeting (2015-2016) and i want to participate in the Board further, meetings and committees, i'm a member of standing committees of social media and common political programs, as well as Reform group member and one of most active members on that issue, learn more experience from other pirates around the world. I wish to see PPI Board to be more open for non-Board members and just for any pirates, bring more people (for example: experts, active pirates) to decision making process, let more people vote on different topics raised during Board meetings. We have this opportunity according to our Statuses (standing committees). Ideally, all active pirates have to be members of the Board.

I'm trying to spread our pirate views in my country. I've proposed to include a basic income and cryptocurrency support in the party targets and program (that was actually done in May 2016) despite the expected prohibitions of using cryptocurrency in my country. As well as i support traditional agenda of Pirate Movement. But the main problem is the world governments which wants to take more control over Internet widening their appetites, and it leads our agenda to grow faster for a bad reason.
