4 - REPORTS

4.1 - Short reports of the board members 1)

Board

  • Bailey:
I worked on the ECOSOC statement on digital crime which has been submitted by Keith. Also wrote and sent out the invite for our review and planning session this Saturday, as well as promoted the GA. Financial docs have been sent out once again. Attended Pirate Beer.
  • Gregory:
I was traveling last couple of weeks, so i was taking some time out from PPI tasks - but i have spent some time in preparation of PPI Booth, and the Lightning Talk at IGF (that is happening tomorrow), I reached out to some people regarding some outstanding issues. I had some conversations about a possible talk submission to the Rightscon for next year and also reached out to some possible presenter for the ThinkTwice in Prague. I look forward to the review meeting on Saturday. The WTO MC12 got canceled at the last moment, so there is one thing less to report on, but we still have a lot of other interesting topics to discuss.
  • Dario:

  • Bastian:
All the financial information I have is on the PPI wiki. Access to the bank account and the Kraken (Bitcoin, Ethereum) is hopefully on the way. Keith has prepared the crypto stuff - I have lacked time to respond to him so far.
Invoices for membership dues and 2018-2020 dues accounts are ready and will be sent out gradually. Untangling this payment mess took me a few hours of work. After all, that's four bank accounts (including PayPal) with three currencies.
But now it is clear, at least to me, who still has to pay here and how much, and members can also now check for themselves.
The lay auditors have received a copy of the quarterly reports - I have not received a response.
I have been taking care of the PPI technology as I do every day.
All systems are running well.
  • Manuel:
Attended the latest Pirate Beer, performed an State of Affairs report for PPCL on behalf of PPI, informing about our actions and progress throughout the year. I'm still working on the Rules of Procedure report and advise for PPCL's CoA. I helped Adam Wolf from PPDE with information regarding the current SoA of PPCL. Represented my university at the 2021 Academy of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons and the Hiroshima Prefecture, in which I was able to network with the Prefecture and a new NGO project they are starting, with the purpose of creating partnerships towards nuclear non-proliferation and elimination, projecting themselves to an ECOSOC observer status. I believe there is potential for a partnership with PPI, to enhance our involvement in ECOSOC making it more sustainable in the future, and to advance the nuclear peace goal that is compatible with the Pirate Movement. Together with that, I'm planning to write a report about Chile and Japan's financial involvement in nuclear development, which could be published by PPI. PPCL is right now focused on the presdiential runoff, between a leftist congressman (Gabriel Boric) and a far-right leader (José Antonio Kast). The runoff will occur on December 19th. PPCL is also starting to develop a podcast, that could be used to enhance the reach of Spanish-speaking Pirate content within the PPI-PoA-PwB realm.
  • Mike:
Went to the UIA round table in Prague, was at the Pirate Beer, now at the IGF and got us a venue for the TT4 for for April. Still waiting on Bailey's passport and the Czechs should be nominating a couple of people for the board and the CoA. On the Czech front, we will be part of the new goverment that will probably be formed just before xmas with three ministers: for digitalisation and regional development, for foreign affairs, for legislation.
  • Dan:
not present
  • Keith:
I followed up with Aragon. I think our plan was too ambitious and their tech would not be compatible for the time being. They recommended we set up a Gnosis safe. I set up a practice one, and I am ready to set up a complete one right away. I helped draft and submit the UN statement for the meeting in January in NY on online anti-crime policy.

5.1 - Proposals

  • TT4 venue (by Mike)
I would love your approval for the venue in Prague for TT4, so I can book it for good. It's the Venus Theatre (Venuše ve Švehlovce,

https://maps.app.goo.gl/Bj9naWDv3QyvCYyi7 ) suitable for app. 150 people, and the price for two days (the whole post-Easter weekend) is app. 26,000 CZK (about 1,000 EUR), incl. technicians for audio and lighting.

Bastian: What are the cancellation conditions?
Mike: That hasn't been talked about yet but last time COVID reasons were a good enough reason to cancel with no penalty at all. But I'll definitely find out the detail and get back to you.
Bastian: Thx.
There are questions about the cancellation fee. We still don't know.
We need to have contingency plans in case someone could get COVID, or how we should proceed in case some people are not capable of attending.
There will be a team available to handle contingencies in case of last minute difficulties.
We need to make sure that we have online participation and ways for people to participate online, considering that it will be difficult considering Corona.
We should remember that we have a donation from the Czech Pirates that will cover this cost.

5.4 ECOSOC/UN

  • Copy of statement submitted.
It is still pending acceptance, along with our Quaddrenial report.
This is our statement.
Pirate Parties International (PPI) is an umbrella organization for political parties, organizations, and activists who identify with the global Pirate movement. The term "Pirate" is the label historically assigned by the copyright industry to file-sharers and is embraced by the global community for issues related to digital education, entertainment and communication. The Pirate movement advocates for human rights and civil liberties in the digital world. PPI is an international network working at the intersections of politics, human rights and technology to facilitate collaboration and support efforts to create a more just, fair and sustainable world.
Pirates innovate technology, while fighting for freedom of information, communication, and human rights in the digital world. Online crimes are condemned in our communities, whether the actors are governments, corporations, or criminal enterprises. We seek to create a fair balance between preventing surveillance and deterring criminal use of the internet on the one hand and enabling individual freedoms on the other. Past experiences demonstrate that the internet can be a venue of human rights violations. We seek to participate in policy making that will reduce surveillance and other digital crimes, while empowering individuals with digital tools.

5.5 PPI HQ update
