4 - REPORTS

4.1 - Short report of the board members 1)

  • Board
  • Mike: Was at the Pirate Beer as well as at the PPNO's GA on Sunday, where I presented the PPCZ's experience of a party that is already represented on all levels. Homework still not finished: FB memo on the PPNO report and to unify the member lists on the Wiki.
  • Linda: PPNO had general assembly, I am now vice chair. We invited Michal Gill to do a presentation, and he did a great job! Attended the end of the graphics meeting. Looking forward to the graphics vault! Mostly been busy doing ppno things last 3 weeks. stopped by pirate beer. Working on needs assessment, sending it to 2 pirates for feedback shortly. Made minor edits to ECOSOC statment
  • Dan

  • Thomas:
not present
  • Keith: Discord is currently not letting me speak on my computer or phone, but I am listening through Zoom. I am working on our ECOSOC report due on Sunday. Besides this, been doing various other things: website, working groups, and whatnot. We have elections coming up again probably, 4th time in about 15 months. Politics is a marathon!
  • Gregory: I was working on the Docker server, lerning it as i go. I prepared and participated in the PPI SCENE Meeting and the follow up of SCULL meeting for desiners. I have created the shares and groups and the registration form for new users on nextcloud. Participated in the SCUBA meeting on the Corona statement. Currently preparing the submission for the Workshop to the IGF on "Digital integrity of the human person, proposal for a new fundamental right" that is due tonight 23:59 UTC. Also I did some clean-up and reorganizing of the PPI Discourse server to be used for the online GA. I am evaluating the format of an online Un-conference (like a virtual barcamp)
  • Bailey: I have been working a lot of back to back night shifts, so I am a bit sleep-deprived to say the least and I apologize for any spotty communication. We had the SCENE meeting on Monday which was small but successful, lots of good conversation. I need to finish typing up the minutes for that meeting. We also had Pirate Beer on Saturday which was fun as always. Yesterday we had the follow up meeting for the PPI graphics vault. It is set up but still needs to be federated like we agreed on at SCULL. Gregory and Sjoerd (PPNL) have agreed to meet up on their own and work on that. I will be setting up another Doodle for the Wiki update as it kind of fell through the cracks on my end (sorry). GA announcement was sent out and we have Vojtěch from PPCZ already registered as a delegate. Today I would like us to decide on how we’ll run the GA in May.
  • Cedric: nothing to say

a lot of work on Congressus but nobody cares anymore ...

  • Alternates:
  • Bastian:
  • I took care of the PPI technique like I do every day.
Various updates and upgrades and security patches were installed in the VM for Congressus.
This installation was a real security risk for the whole PPI. Congressus is running again now, but we don't really know anything about the application. The important thing was that we stopped the zombie.
  • I attended Pirate Beer again. :-D
  • Carlos:

  • Svein:
not present
  • Cal:

5.1 - Proposals

  • GA Procedure
Submitted by: Bailey
Justification: https://pp-international.net/2020/04/announcement-spring-general-assembly-2020/
Motion: We have various types of preparation that need to be undertaken, and we should schedule a subgroup meeting. However I would like us to discuss and hopefully decide on how we are actually going to run the GA, which tools to use and whatnot.

Mike: Absolutely for dooing it over Zoom. Using Discourse as we always too.

Yutyo: (very shortened): As Pirates we should prefer open source SW. Bailey: (very shortened): As much as I get that argument, the priority for our most important meetings is reliability. Since we don't really have any stable open source SW at our disposal at which to run a meeting of 20+ people, we don't really have a choice. People prefer video conferencing because seeing people makes online contact more personal.

Mike: Since PPNO allows us to use their Zoom room, also the matter of paying for the services is not a problem.

Cedric: @BaileyL I fully support you on the fact that jitsi can't run more than 10 users at a time right now

Gregory: We should use the oportunity to have the online Uncoference, an online Bar Camp after the official part of the GA, and we could use Jitsi for it for the breakout rooms, since this will be much smaller rooms then the main rooms. We can use collaborative whiteboard to capture those breakout rooms https://github.com/excalidraw/excalidraw (can be tryed at https://excalidraw.com/ )

Cédric: (got the gist of it): Currently against Congressus for the upcoming GA; people are not ready for it yet. If any tool is used (unless we just vote by voice), registration needs to be set up in advance.

Yutyo:I represent the socialist pirate movement and we think the the principle of using only open source software is not to be violated!!
Motion
Conduct of the online GA May 2020
* The board agrees on using Zoom for discussions and voting during the May 2020 GA; Discourse shall be used for the proposals only.
Yes : Gregory, Keith, Mike, Bailey,Linda
No :
Abstain : Cedric
Result: Motion passed
::Motion is passed to use Zoom for the GA itself. Discourse will also be used.

5.2 - Working Groups Update

SCULL
  • There will be a new meeting of SCULL about Democracy systems and voting systems May 20 2020 at 20:20 CEST

5.3 Economic Update

  • Submitted by: Dan
We should reach out to see whether there are any plans for the finances work.

5.4 ECOSOC/UN

  • ECOSOC statement
On April 21 they finally mailed everyone to update about the HLPF in July. Our statement is due April 27. We should revise our COVID-19 statement with relevant information on sustainable development.
Submitted by: Keith
We need to have a writing group session of one hour soon and finish. It is a short statement. We also should discuss who will make the oral statement.
We don't have time for Doodle. Would anyone be open to a quick writers meeting perhaps tomorrow night? Ppno has a zoom event with ppno tomorrow evening, so zoom is busy then
We can have the meeting on facebook or anywhere. It will probably only be a few of us.
