The Piratenpartei Deutschland (official abbrevation: PIRATEN) is the pirate party of Germany.
Status
2008
The Piraten were up for election in the two federal state elections in Hesse and in Hamburg. With 0.3% and 0.2% they missed the neccessary minimum of 5% to enter the parliament.
The federal state elections of Hesse in January 2008, was the second time a Pirate Party was up for election. Top candidate was Thorsten Wirth from Frankfurt. They got 6,962 (0.3%) of the votes.
On 24th Febuary 2008, the Piraten participated in the federal state elections in Hamburg. Top candidate was Bernhard Schillo. They got 1,773 (0.2%) of the votes.
2009
In the early state elections of Hesse in January 2009, the Piraten got 13,796 (0.5%), about twice as much as in 2008.
In the European Parliament election 2009, the Piraten gained 229,464 votes (0.9%), less than the 5% threshold which must be reached to enter the parliament. On 9th November 2011, the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany has voided this threshold for future elections to the European Parliament.
On 20.06.2009, Jörg Tauss, a member of the Bundestag (lower house of the Federal Republic of Germany), left the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and became a member of the Pirate Party Germany.
In the state elections of Saxony on the 30th August 2009, the Piraten gained 34,651 votes (1.9%). In local elections on the same day, the Piraten entered several local parliaments.
In 15 of the 16 German states, the Piraten participated in the elections of the Bundestag on 27.09.2009. The Piraten gained 847,870 votes (2.0%). On the same day the Piraten gained 28,837 votes (1.8%) in the early state elections of Schleswig-Holstein.
2010
The only state elections in 2010 were in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Piraten gained 121,046 votes (1.6%).
2011
In 2011, state elections were held in Hamburg (20.02.2011), Saxony-Anhalt (20.03.2011), Baden-Württemberg (27.03.2011), Rhineland-Palatinate (27.03.2011), Bremen (22.05.2011), Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (04.09.2011) and Berlin (18.09.2011).
In each of these elections except the one in Berlin, the Piraten reached between 1.4% and 2.1% of the votes, which is less than the 5% threshold that needs to be reached to enter these parliaments.
However, in Berlin, the Piraten managed to gain 130,105 votes (8.9%). 15 members of the Pirate Party have been elected into the parliament of Berlin.

Junge Piraten (eng. Young Pirates)
The Junge Piraten (official abbrevation: JuPis) are the youth organisation of the Piraten. They have about 300 Members and 3 state associations.

Every human has a right of privacy which has to be free from surveillance.
Copyright
The copyright has to be changed to fit in the new situation.
Patents
Patents shut be reduced especially patents on software and live.
Transparency of Politic
More transparency reduce the corruption. Politicians shut be bettter controlled by the people. All transparency ends there where the privacy starts.
Open Access
Free access to developments that were payed by tax.
Infrastructure Monopoly
A good internet infrastructure has to exist everywhere. A censorship by government agencies will be rejected.
Education
The Piraten are against tuition fees and want a democratization of education. Free access to information and education is important to develop a free and open mind.
